You have to file and pay within 28 days of the end of your tax period (e.g. April-June period due July 28). Late filing is subject to a minimum penalty of AED 1,000.

All businesses registered for VAT (which is compulsory if the taxable turnover exceeds AED 375,000) are required to file returns regularly regardless of whether or not sales were made during the period.

Previous VAT returns, bank statements, accounting records, sales & purchase invoices, and previous expense documents. Appropriate records should be maintained for a minimum of 5 years.

First late filing is AED 1,000, subsequent late filing is double the first, plus interest on late payments (if any) within 24 months. These penalties can be avoided altogether with professional support.
